Overcoming Wedding Stress

Author: Ronnie Nijmeh, ACQYR.com

Can the 'Big Day' be a 'Stress Free Wedding'?

The wedding invitations didn't turn out the way you wanted.  The dress isn't quite ready, and won't be until five days before the wedding.  You're stressed about the wedding cake, the caterers, the hall... and you have this sick feeling that perhaps you might be rushing into something.  Is there a way to find wedding stress relief?

Of course, the phrase 'stress free wedding' is an oxymoron.  No one can go through the entire thing without any stress at all.  Whether you're a bride-zilla trying to perfect every last detail, or you're getting the pre-wedding jitters, wedding stress is bound to affect you in one way or another.

So if pre-wedding stress is normal, how do you enjoy the biggest day of your life and the time leading up to it?

Wedding Stress is Okay

Start by remembering that it's okay to feel anxious and nervous.  Wedding stress isn't a sign that you're having second thoughts.  And you're not having a premonition that the wedding cake will fall off the table or that the caterer will forget to show up.  Everything's going to be fine, you're just going through a little pre-wedding tension... and that's completely normal.

The trick is to steer the wedding stress in the right direction.  With the right approach, stress is something that can motivate you and keep you on track.  Let it get to you, and you'll end up sitting in a dark room eating so much you'll never fit into that wedding dress (or drinking so much you'll never figure out how the buttons work on your tux.)  Start by focusing on the things that you can do instead of things that someone else is supposed to handle.  Stressing over something beyond your control is pointless.

Minimize Wedding Stress by Living Right

Your wedding stress could get out of control if you don't maintain your body's health.  The mind and the body work together, so you have to take care of both.  Eat healthy, get the right amount of sleep, and exercise regularly.  And don't forget to find some relaxation time.  Your negative emotions and feelings might just disappear for a few hours if you play a game of golf, go hiking, or some other kind of relaxing activity.

It's easy to ignore your health during the busy months leading up to your wedding.  You want it to be the perfect day and you're doing everything you can to make this a reality. But working against yourself by ignoring your body will only lead to unhappiness before, during, and after your wedding.

Consider a Wedding Stress Coach

A coach helps you deal with issues in the present and future.  If wedding stress is taking over your life, perhaps taking a step back and letting someone help will provide wedding stress relief.    After all – you've got a specialist working on your wedding cake, your flower arrangements, and all the other wedding elements.  A stress specialist can help you keep your anxiety from spinning out of control.

As the wedding approaches, you might feel more and more frantic to make everything perfect.  Just remember that this is something you should enjoy.  Don't allow wedding stress to ruin the day that's supposed to be yours!
