By pausing and clearing my head, I am making way for bright, new ideas.

My mind is my greatest priority, because it is the center of my creativity. By taking the time to clear it, I am opening myself up to new and better ideas.

Ideas rarely come to me full-blown and complete. I nurture them to maturity. The first step in this process involves getting rid of clutter in my mind so that I can recognize good ideas when they appear.

When I take the time to pause and clear my head, I am like a master gardener, tilling the soil to get rid of all that would hamper growth. I am creating an environment where seeds can germinate and flourish. I weed out thoughts that could crowd out my creativity or leech off my energy so that my best and brightest thoughts are allowed the richest ground possible in which to grow.

This is a conscious process. I choose to set aside time to center myself, to sift through my thoughts and to get rid of all that is not conducive to growth and productivity.

I actively choose to make time for self-reflection every day, because I know that this will allow my creative mind to flourish and will lead to greater productivity.

Self-Reflection Questions:

  1. What is the condition of my mental garden?
  2. Have I been treating my mind as a priority?
  3. What other activity can I condense or set aside to make time to clear my mind?

Silence is rewarding, so I indulge it as often as possible.

Silence is rewarding, so I indulge it as often as I can. I do not feel the need to have a constant swirl of noise around me. I do not need to have the television on constantly. I do not need the radio while I'm driving. I have no obligation to answer my phone when it rings.

Allowing myself to be still calms my heart rate and my blood pressure, leading to greater health and longevity. I am rewarded by better and deeper sleep. Lower levels of adrenaline keep me from responding in hair-trigger fashion to crises. I indulge in silence because it is good for my body.

Silence is also important for my mind, allowing me to absorb and retain the important information I have recently learned, rather than allowing it to be dissipated in the chaos around me.

Perhaps most importantly, silence nourishes my spirit. My thoughts and feelings are at the center of my creative self. When I afford myself silence, I increase my own creativity.

I actively seek out peaceful silence. When I walk, I allow myself to tune into the lessons of nature. When I am working, I prefer silence over the static of canned voices. When I am with friends and family, I do not feel obligated to fill up space with empty chatter.

I do not treat silence as an intruder, but as a friend that I welcome with open arms, knowing that he comes with my best interests at heart.

Self-Reflection Questions:

  1. What function does noise play in my life?
  2. What sources of noise in my life could be silenced?
  3. Do I treat silence as a friend or as an adversary?

I am creative.

I am creative because I am me. There is no one else who exists that is quite like me. I am a piece of rare art that my Creator molded, shaped, whittled, decorated, and refined. And when my Creator was done, the mold was broken and thrown away. I am unique.

Every freckle on my face, each strand of hair on my head, the slant of my smile, the hue of my eyes, the curve of my chin, and even the sound of my voice show how creative I am. The distinctions between another and myself are as vast and numerous as the stars twinkling in the heavens above. I am divine art.

And it's all of these ingenious variances that make me creative. My work, personal relationships, community, and recreational arenas are the stages where I can display my creativity. I am creative in the decisions I make and the way I handle changes, issues, and challenges. The creativity was branded in me from the beginning, and it's my prerogative on how I use it.

I merely need to tap my creative core to release the innovation and uniqueness that reside within me. My creativity can be revealed through my style of dress, the cuisines that I devise, the poetry that I write, the music that I compose, the parties that I design, the way I express affection, the house that I build, the flowers that I plant, the budget I propose, the answers that I give in a report, or my stance on community issues.

I am designed uniquely for a purpose - to allow my creativity to flow. And as I share my talents, interests, and ideas, I can help myself and others grow as individuals.

Self-Reflection Questions:
