Exercises for Adults: Getting Fit, Fast!
Obesity is so prevalent in our society due to the fast paced lives we lead. Our daily lives are full of stress, and our schedules leave us little time to exercise or to plan nutritious meals every day. Obesity often leads to more severe medical problems. Medical conditions like high blood pressure and high cholesterol are often the results of being overweight and are affecting younger and younger people these days.
Be Active and Stay Active
What can be done? The most important thing anyone can do is stay active. Our body changes as we get older. People who do not make an effort to eat right and be active at a young age and continue that into adulthood are likely to have negative changes in their health. They may develop serious medical problems down the road. In order to be healthy, adults need a well established routine of eating right and getting enough exercise.
Exercise does not have to be boring because you can do it a bunch of different ways. You can choose a simple exercise program to start and then after you build up your strength and endurance, you can try something more difficult.
Walking is the easiest and most recommended way to get fit. Even walking a mile will do a lot for your health if you walk fast enough that you start to sweat. For better results, you can carry hand weights with you while you walk.
With all the exercise tapes and videos available, you don’t need to join a gym to get fit. You can find workouts that will be challenging, as well as simple workouts to do that are less physically demanding. You should try to have a variety of both.
You don’t want to overdo it, though, if you are new to exercising. After you are able to walk or bike for several miles, try some yoga, Pilate’s, kickboxing and dancing. If you prefer to exercise outside try playing soccer, tennis or another sport. Exercise does not have to be a chore!
Get a Buddy!
If you are committed to exercising, it is a good idea to have a workout buddy so you can keep each other motivated. If you have a walk planned with a friend every day at a specific time, you are unlikely to skip it. You and your workout buddy can walk further each day and the time will fly by since you have someone to talk to.
Incorporate Strength Training
It is important to include strength training in your exercise plan. Strength training is great for losing weight and burning fat. You don’t have to try and lift heavy weights because technique matters more than the weight. Do exercises that work on each muscle group a few times in each workout for best results. After a while your form will suffer as you get used to the weights. That’s when you should increase weights.
If you don’t have 30 minutes of time at once, try spreading out your workouts throughout the day in 10 minute sections. This will give you the same results as if you worked out for a steady 30 minutes. The important thing is that you get some exercise time in when you are supposed to. Don’t use your busy schedule as an excuse to not exercise.
