How to Get Off Antidepressants Video

by Rachel Johnson on February 16th, 2009

In this video Dr. Erika explains that you can get off of antidepressants, regardless of how long you have been on them, it just has to be a gradual process. This process is something that you need to go through with the help of your doctor to allow for it to be a smooth and permanent transition.

There are a lot of people out there who believe that you cannot get off antidepressants once you get off them, but with the help of your doctor you can get off of them and stay off of them. Unfortunately many people make the mistake of trying to stop taking them “cold turkey” and that causes withdrawal.

With patience and the help of a doctor you can live a life free of these medications.

Key Points from this Video:

  • You don’t have to stay on antidepressants forever.
  • Don’t try to get off of them by yourself.
  • You can use them for short periods of time.
  • You have to wean off of them.
  • If you go to fast you can cause a rebound effect.
