Over the years, people have tried all sorts of chemicals and substances to aid in the process of losing weight. Recently, there has been a lot of buzz about the effectiveness of using vitamin B12 supplements as a weight loss option. But is this really true? To answer that question, let’s first find out what vitamin B12 is.

Vitamin B12 is one of the nutrients that our body needs in order to function well. Its main purpose is to aid in the formation of blood cells, and a deficiency can lead to some forms of anemia. Vitamin B12 is also vital in providing the body with the energy it needs to perform everyday functions. This vitamin is present in many ordinary foods, and is also contained in many vitamin supplements.

Advantages of Taking Adequate Vitamin B12

  • Increased energy levels.
    People who receive the recommended daily amounts of vitamin B12 are always on the go and seldom get too tired to do their regular activities.
  • Improved rate of metabolism.
    With sufficient vitamin B12, the body has a faster rate of metabolism, which means that you are able to burn fat much faster.

Constantly tired people usually don’t have the drive to get up and exercise, and those with slow metabolism are unable to burn calories efficiently. So as you can see, vitamin B12 could really have something to do with weight loss.

Vitamin B12 per se does not directly cause you to lose weight, but with its effects on your body, such as increasing your energy levels as well as the rate of  your metabolism, it is possible that it is at least indirectly responsible for some of the weight that you can inadvertently lose.

Many ordinary foods contain vitamin B12, such as most seafood and vitamin-fortified food products like cereals and some snacks. It is also included in most multivitamin supplements. If you want to actively use this vitamin for losing weight, you might need a little more than what you have been getting everyday. To do this, you can try getting vitamin B12 shots, which are the easiest way of getting your regular dose of the nutrient. The only drawback to this is that it can be rather expensive; each shot of vitamin B12 would cost you around $60.

The use of vitamin B12 as a weight loss treatment has not been scientifically proven. However, thousands of satisfied individuals also say that it has actually been very effective in helping them with their weight problems.

Despite these claims, however, vitamin B12 will still not make you lose weight if you rely on it alone. You will still have to get up and exercise, as well as improve your diet, in order to really start losing those extra pounds.

The best thing you can do is to make sure that your daily diet contains adequate levels of naturally occurring Vitamin B12, and exercise regularly. Soon enough, you will not only lose weight but feel better about yourself as well.
